Someone told me something funny a while ago which has stuck in my mind. It was about a conversation in one of the crime thrillers on TV where the detective was chasing a rich drug dealer. Because the villain had plenty of money he thought that he was above the law.

I think that the crook had sent a few million dollars to someones bank account and the police thought that it was to pay for some hit man to carry out a drug gang killing. When the interrogator mentioned that he had sent a lot of money to this random bank account, they drug dealer merely said “It may be lots of money for you”.

This just goes to show that what is a lot of money to some people is just pocket money to others. Nevertheless, I would still find it difficult to imagine that a few million was not a lot of dollars. He must have started his personal budget from a young age!! Unfortunately not everyone will ever get to that position.

Since the internet has become more popular there is no need to not know how to do a personal budget. There is so much free help about managing your finances, borrowing money sensibly and then getting out of debt if you need to.

Open a savings account with your bank at as early an age as possible.  Even before you start earning yourself you should start saving a bit of your parent’s pocket money. t will not be long before you are pleased that you have a little put aside.Do not hesitate.
