Convert Home To Solar Power – DIY Method
There are lots of not too expensive options to convert home to solar power as solar power technologies can supply for several different uses. Do It Yourself is becoming an ever more popular option as it is considerably cheaper. Solar home electricity options are used to provide energy for home appliances and green water heating can provide hot water options for your laundry and things like cooking, showers and cleaning. When planning a model solar house you should think about which solar energy choice is most efficient, and cost effective for your position. If you set it up yourself, you can have it how you want it.
A passive solar house basically makes use of the natural environment to achieve great reductions in your use of energy. It makes use of construction materials and design to store the sun’s heat during the winter for warmth and cut off the sun’s heat during the summer as cooling. There are a few techniques you can use in your solar energy home. First is indirect gain which involves a Trombe wall which collects heat and spreads it around your home by the use of fans. Secondly direct gain which is radiant heat from sunlight passing directly into your living area and being absorbed in the flooring, furniture etc. This is usually achieved with south facing windows. The third eay is thermal mass, materials such as brick or stone that store and collect heat. Lastly passive cooling, which generally means overhangs for windows facing south to cut out the sun through the summer for cooling your house.
Another benefit you can design when you convert home to solar power is the use of solar home electricity. Solar electricity generates when photovoltaic cells are made use of to collect the rays of the sun and convert it into usable electricity. The energy supplied by solar panels has to be changed to DC (direct current) by using an inverter. Solar power can be used as an addition to grid electricity already coming into the home or, with the use of a battery storage bank, it can be also used as the only source of electricity for the home. If you intend to use the second, it is best that you have a generator available as a backup power source.
A very important thing to design in your system is solar water heating. You can design a closed loop system, if where you live tends not to have very cold weather and freezing is not normally likely to have freezing. This kind of system uses tubes filled with water which are heated directly by the sun. An open loop system uses a liquid similar to anti-freeze to collect the sun’s heat and then uses that heated liquid to heat water for the house via a heat exchanger.
Whatever steps you take toward an alternative power system, energy efficiency surely is the most important attribute to a successful solar home operation. Energy efficiency reduces the requirement for power. Using extra insulation, better windows, lights and appliances than used in traditional construction, you are already saving yourself lots of electricity so therefore money as well. However these changes may not be an option when converting an existing house to a solar home, therefore make any alterations possible to your home energy efficiency and start using other solar methods to convert home to solar power.

I did not realize how easy it is to turn your home solar. I always thought it was a project that would costs tens and hundred's of thousands of dollars. Cool insights!
There is less and less oil in the grounds and demand is still growing. It will get even more expensive in the years to come.
I believe solar energy brings a very good and long term solution to the curent situation.

Hey Trevor, something my dad used to do growing up was to run an all house fan at night in the summer when the temperature would cool down to push all the hot air out of the attic and bring the cool air into the house. Then by closing all the windows and shades in the morning, he was able to keep the house cool all day without even needing to use the A/C (even in 90 degree temperature!).

Your dad should have marketed that idea, sounds easier than sole panels …
This is a great idea sir. Converting would be a good tips for those who spend a lot of money just for electrical bills.
