5 Part Time Jobs For Income
We are reading all the time about the financial challenges that not only Americans face but people all around the world. None of us seem to have as much money as we would like and are always looking to get a bit more somehow.
There are a few ways to do it and you just have to decide which one is most suitable for your situation.
Here are a few ideas for you to consider
a) Search through your closets, garages, basements and attics and dig out all the things that you do not really need. Then plan on selling them. You can take them along to a local car boot sale or hold a garage sale in your home, set up a stall and barter with the customers for how much you get. This can be very interesting and if you get all your family involved there will be some good bonding. Do not over price the articles though or they will not sell.
The onset of internet shopping sites make that route quite attractive. Take a photo of your item and list it on EBay or somewhere similar. It may cost you a little but you can set a reserved price and include that fee in it. There are a number of books around that explain the process and make the most profit that is possible.
b) You can consider taking on a part time job. Ironically this is probably easier to do at the times you need it the most. Just before holidays like Christmas, the stores and restaurants are crying out for additional temporary staff.
You may be lucky enough to live near the beach and be able to get work there during the summer season or the mountains in the winter.
c) Are you any good at ironing or cleaning? Put a sign in your local shop and you will get people flooding to your door to bring their ironing to you. This is particularly good if you have kids. You can do it in your own home and look after them at the same time.
The cleaning aspect of it is a bit different as you will obviously have to go to their homes. However it is very convenient as you will be able to take the kids to school, earn a bit of money cleaning and then pick them up again.
d) Maybe you are capable and can offer to teach children in the evenings or weekends. A lot of parents like to pay for extra education for their children.
e) People live longer these days and there are a number of senior citizens who cannot manage the household and garden chores as well as they used to. They also tend to have some spare money so you could help them in and around their homes.
You see, lots of people consider it beneath them to do these more menial tasks. I know that you are different however. You will be able to see the sense in getting part time work to bring in some extra pennies to spend on the luxuries of life.

Hi Trevor:
I am a firm believer that every penny counts!:)
My family took on a part time cleaning job so we earn money to go to Disneyland. It was a great bonding time and we got a great trip out of it.

Great ideas – I have one more. Piggy banks aren't just for kids anymore. In fact I wrote an article about this several months ago. Last year I started chucking all my change into a piggy bank – I found it held about $100 when filled. I kept doing that, kept saving the money – within a few short months I had enough to buy a new laptop with all the bells and whistles I wanted – all from that change I saved. I really works, and it's really painless … try it, you'll like it!

That's a great idea Marquita. I am sure that a lot of the small change just gets lost somewhere. It is amazing how it can build up though.

Thanks for the ideas Trevor,
I like how you balanced extra income sources, like selling unwanted items with extra income streams like doing ongoing projects like tutoring. My wife does Feng Shui professionally and one of the main rules is that if something that you own doesn't keep giving you some value back, it should go to someone who will get something out of it.

Great suggestions. I have been in the process of cleaning out my garage and putting things on Craigslist. I seem to sell things every week and it's really helpful. Thanks for the great tips.

I might have to put out an ad for tutoring, since I am a former teacher. Great ideas!

My boss recently cut our hours as a whole at work, so I have been looking for a part-time job as it is. The problem is, is that most people looking to hire want certain criteria met before they would consider hiring you. What are some tricks to make you look good without meeting all the expectations?

Thanks for the ideas — sounds like multiple streams of income to me! I think I've done all of these at one time or another. Speaking of "menial" tasks, one of my interim jobs was on grounds for a publishing house. What fun it was to hop a riding mower and zip up to the back field! "Menial" tasks can be good thinking time.

I am a working in a government agency as non-regular employee. Though my salary is too low I have to take part-time jobs just to sustain my family needs. I live to survive but still I'm happy living with my loved ones together..

Hi,Trevor,
I like your choice of part time jobs, except for ironing (I hate doing it, I admit it). Everybody is into making some extra cash, either for additional income or just for filling up free time. I used to sell things on auctions online, so I think it's also a good source of easy pocket money.

It is quite useful to consider how you might transform the unique skills you possess into an opportunity to earn extra income. For example, if you love scrapbooking, try offering to complete other parents’ unfinished scrapbook pages. Consider your gifts and what you love to do, and the possibilities are endless. Good luck!
