5 Good Reasons For Online Banking
That online banking title could never have been used only a relatively short time ago. We had no option but to walk down the high street to our local bank branch whenever we wanted to take some of money out or even to pay it in.
Of course we could use a check but we never seemed to have any control of when we would get the payment into our account if was was written to us or, even more so, when the money would leave our account if we had written the check.
All that has changed with the onset of internet banking and here are 4 good reasons why we think that it is an excellent choice.
1. It saves time. When we had to travel to the bank it could take a lot of time particularly when we lived in some outlying area miles from the bank.
The world today seems to be fast moving. Everyone wants to do things as quickly as possible as there is so much to do and we want to fit in as much as possible. It makes sense that we can do our banking from the comfort of our own home or office desk doesn’t it?
It can be done easily at any time of the day or night, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year, so you do not have to work within the constraints of “normal banking hours” and of course there are no “bank holidays” to worry about.
2. It saves money. This is tied in with the first one a little bit as the money you save will often be in the cost of petrol and car parking charges or public transport to visit the bank branch.
You will also often get a discount if you make your regular monthly payments to the utility companies etc. electronically. After all, they do not have the costs of employing so many people if we are doing it ourselves.
3. You can check your records at any time. Have you ever discovered that you do not have as much money in your checking account as you thought that you had? Internet banking allows you to go back through all your transactions and work out what you spent the extra money on and when.
Sure you used to have paper bills and could do the same but most people were not organized enough to file them away properly and were not able to find them when they wanted to.
4. Your money is safer. I can remember when we had to carry a lot of cash with us to the bank in order to pay our bills. I never felt totally secure with that and kept looking over my shoulder to see if I was being followed.
I do not have that worry any more.
5. You can plan ahead. This is one of the greatest benefits in my opinion. I do not have to make sure that I am available to go to the bank on a certain day. I do not have to pay the bills early because I am going on vacation any more.
I plan ahead and, via internet banking, can arrange that the money leaves my account on the right day even if it I am away for a couple of weeks.
Online banking has changed my life for the better.

Ive never really thought about online banking before, because I grew up not knowing anything else, but you've made some excellent points. I can just imagine making large transfers these days to pay for things and having to pick up the money myself and take it to the person I'm doing business with. I live in a third world country and doing that here, (especially certain places) Id be pretty paranoid to say the least!! We live in a world of such opportunity and we truly are very lucky for the many benefits technology brings.
Nice Article ~ Slowly but surely I am moving to all internet banking because as you say in your article it's much easier. I recently was away for almost a month while traveling in Europe and I believe I had a much better time over there partly because I didn't have to worry about bills being paid on time. Most all of my important bills are paid per internet banking and so are scheduled. It's really nice not to have to worry about that sort of thing.
I was taken a little aback a couple years ago when I was traveling in Ireland and friends there shared with me that it's the norm over there to do all their bill paying online and that they are often amazed that so many Americans in particular are still using the old system where the bill comes in the mail and then you depend on the postal service to get the bill to the right place at the right time.
I can recall several times when mailing bills that they would go to the wrong address, not get there on time, or I would accidentally either put the wrong check in the wrong envelope or just plain forget to put the check in the envelope at all.
Another benefit to online banking is that anymore our credit scores are tied into paying bills on time and with online banking we can be assured that the bills will be paid on time 100% of the time. I just love modern technology.

Great post, Trevor. I agree with you. I love online banking. I haven't gotten a debit card yet – still prefer checks – but I do most of my bill paying and all of my banking online. It's so convenient and makes it easy to keep track of how much money I have. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hello Trevor
Online banking is one of the many great benefits of technology. There are many cost savings, such as mailing of monthly statements, banks not have to exchange checks and reducing the teller time at banks. Now with mobile banking it gets even better.
